LAHORE, Mar 14 (INP) : Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that he did not order any authority to carry out an operation against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists in Model Town. The CM Punjab recorded his statement Saturday, before a joint interrogation team (JIT) probing the Model Town incident of June 17, 2014, during which at least 14 people lost their lives in clashes between PAT workers and the Punjab Police.
PAT had nominated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, CM Punjab, Punjab Law Minister, police officials, members of the provincial administration as well as the provincial government and the federal government in the Model Town FIR. The Punjab government had suspended Rana Sanaullah as its law minister following the tragedy. Instead of asking the JIT to visit CM House, Shahbaz visited the investigation team’s office himself to get his statement recorded. PAT, however, still continued rejecting the JIT and did not visit its office to get any statement recorded.
CM Punjab in his statement clarified that he was unaware of the operation that was carried out against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) activists and stated that he got to know about the incident from TV. I at once ordered to stop the Model Town operation after getting the report , he added.
