PEMRA warns all Tv channels not to use helicams / UAVs / drone cameras for coverages — Directed to shoot down drone cameras in case of violation

ISLAMABAD, March 20 (INP): PEMRA, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and armed forces in a meeting held Friday at Islamabad have jointly resolved not to allow drone cameras for any kind of coverage by TV channels particularly in the wake of 23rd March security concerns. The Authorities concerned have been directed to shoot down the drone cameras of TV channels if used despite this warning. It has also been discussed in the meeting that the licenses of TV channels who would be found guilty of breach of directives may also be revoked followed by heavy fines.

It was said in the meeting that world over drone (UAV) cameras are used under certain rules and regulations but TV channels in Pakistan have been indulged in this practice without any kind of regulation. It was realized that amid ongoing security situation of the country, the possibility of any terror activity in the guise of drone cameras, helicams cannot be ignored. It may also be mentioned that PEMRA Authority in its 102nd meeting held on February 20, 2015 had also directed that “No PEMRA Licensee shall use Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) / Quad Copter helicams unless authorized by the local administration of the area where the licensee intends to deploy such Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) / Quad Copter helicams”.

PEMRA has therefore, in its directive issued to all Satellite TV Licensees have warned not to use any kind of Quad Copter Helicams / Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs) / Drone Cameras without the approval of the local administration especially on the forthcoming event of “23rd March Parade”.ISLAMABAD, March 20 (INP): PEMRA, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and armed forces in a meeting held Friday at Islamabad have jointly resolved not to allow drone cameras for any kind of coverage by TV channels particularly in the wake of 23rd March security concerns.
