Railways employees sublet allotted bunglows in sensitive areas creating security risk, causing losses of millions to PR

RAWALPINDI, Mar 14 (INP) Many palatial houses allotted to Railways officers in Rawalpindi have been sublet by the allottees and they are earning tens of millions of rupees annually and causing huge losses to the organisation and a security risk in the highly sensitive areas. The subletting of the government quarters in the most sensitive areas of Railways has raised serious security concern and the Special Branch has reportedly initiated action to get details of the illegal occupiers of the accommodation.

According to details, the special branch has prepared a report about people living unauthorizedly in Railways land and quarters and sent to the high ups of Police. According to the report 260 houses of Railways officers are in the jurisdiction of Cantt, Race Course and Westridge police stations. Every bunglow of the officers has four to eight servant quarters which have been sublet to private people by the officers on their own. According to the estimates every servant quarter has been given on monthly rent to four to six thousand rupees.

The utility bills are also being charged from the tenants. The report further said that most of the Railways officers allotted these bunglows belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the illegal residents are also from the province and FATA which has been declared as a security risk as there is no record of the residents. . The Police officers have directed the three police stations to immediately collect the data of the people living in Railways quarters through the administration and railways officials.
